In the Name of Cod: The Important Story of the Rise and Fall of the Cod Fishery and its Profound Impact on the Culture of Anglophone Communities on Quebec's Lower North Shore (1961-2011)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The goal of this project is to understand and to showcase the changes that occurred in Anglophone communities on the Quebec Lower North Shore (LNS) over the past fifty years as a result of the decline of the cod fishery, and to preserve this part of the region's heritage. Through this project, the Quebec-Labrador Foundation will develop and undertake a series of activities including a comprehensive inventory of existing archives, an “Antiques Roadshow” related to the cod fishery in LNS communities, the preparation of community cultural cod maps, a booklet on the culture and history of the cod fishery, and an interactive Fish Facts and Memories website.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Background in environmental studies, geography, history or related field of study or equivalent experience;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Experience developing partnerships with a variety of stakeholders;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated interest in learning how the environment influenced the culture and heritage of the Lower North Shore Region;
- Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office programs;
- Willingness to travel; and
- Fluency in French and English a definite asset.
STIPEND: $23 per hour, 40 hours per week, for a total of fifteen weeks
