CHEVERY FESTIVAL FOR THE ARTS COORDINATOR
Position Code: CULTHER102
Location: Chevery, Quebec
Summer 2010
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
QLF is seeking an intern to work in a small community on Quebec’s Lower North Shore. The intern will assist in the organization and regional promotion of the 2010 Chevery Festival for the Arts, Conference and Tradeshow, which takes place July 26-31, 2010.
Like much of the Lower North Shore, Chevery and its surrounding communities have been severely challenged by the downturn of the fishing industry. In response to the resulting economic struggles, community residents have undertaken to develop a tourism industry based on the vibrant arts and crafts traditions in the region. Alongside QLF, Chevery has recently developed an arts and sustainability initiative, which has led to community arts programming, the establishment of an Artists’ Guild, the development of an artist-in-residence project, and the bi-annual Festival for the Arts. The Festival for the Arts is designed to showcase the talents of local artists and artisans, and to promote the cultural tourism industry in Chevery.
HOURS: Interns may generally work Monday-Friday, from 9-5, but should expect variations on this schedule due to travel and occasional evening or weekend events. Despite this schedule, work will be roughly the equivalent of full-time hours.
QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate should have a strong interest in the arts, cultural heritage and in its role in community development as well as an academic background in art history, tourism or a related field within the social sciences. We are seeking an outgoing individual with excellent communication skills, experience in logistical planning, and an interest in tourism and/or marketing. The individual should be self-motivated, and be able to independently identify tasks and work toward their completion. These skills should be complemented by a strong capacity to work collaboratively and to share and generate creativity as part of a team.
STIPEND AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is contingent on funding. Stipend depends on qualifications, background, and available funds. Applications are due by Monday, March 15, 2010, but are accepted on a rolling basis, so it is in your interest to apply earlier. Eligible students of McGill University should apply for this position through the McGill Arts Internship Program by January 29, 2010 and are strongly encouraged to apply for a McGill Arts Internship Award.
TO APPLY: Please go to the “How to Apply (english) (français)” section of our website and complete our online application form. Please be sure to upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and cover letter as part of this process. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, so it is in your interest to apply early.
