POSITION DESCRIPTION:
QLF is seeking an energetic, organized, multi-talented program coordinator to assist us with the smooth running of several ongoing programs and operations. Based in our downtown Montreal office, the selected candidate will play two primary roles.
First, he/she will assist with the coordination of our busy Leadership Program during the summer months. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- working with QLF staff to ensure the safety of all program participants at all times;
- providing ongoing communication and support to interns and volunteers in the field;
- liaising with program partners and QLF staff;
- overseeing logistics associated with the housing and travel of program participants; and
- ensuring adequate documentation of all projects.
In addition to these Leadership Program responsibilities, the successful candidate will assume responsibility for several ongoing tasks related to the administration of the Montreal Office and QLF Canada. These tasks will include basic book-keeping functions, simple financial transactions, and other administrative tasks. The coordinator will be expected to represent QLF at the office and will be responsible for handling general queries by telephone, e-mail, and in person.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to assist QLF with additional program needs as these arise. These needs may include work for our cultural heritage program and/or on a river conservation project.
QUALIFICATIONS:
All aspects of this position require excellent organizational skills as well as strong communication skills, ideally in both French and English. A pleasant and flexible approach is essential and the ability to multi-task is very important. Prior work experience in an office environment is desirable. A facility with basic arithmetic and Excel is necessary for the administrative component of this role.
This position requires a general understanding of QLF’s mandate and programs. Experience (work or study) in environmental conservation and/or cultural heritage represents a strong asset, as the ideal candidate would then be positioned take on additional responsibilities associated with our programs as needs arise.
To excel in the Leadership Program component of this role, previous experience working with youth is a strong asset. The candidate should be extremely responsible, as he/she must consistently demonstrate good judgment with respect to the safety and wellbeing of QLF’s interns and volunteers. In addition, he/she must be able to relate and respond to participants’ diverse needs and to smoothly anticipate and manage a range of logistics associated with this busy summer program.
This position represents an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience working with a dynamic, community-focused NGO. It is well-suited to an emerging professional wishing to explore the fields of office management, environmental conservation, cultural heritage, or leadership development. It may also be suited to qualified candidates at a range of professional levels, including those who are recently-retired and wishing to put their work experience to good use.
HOURS AND REMUNERATION:
The selected candidate would be expected to work between 15 and 21 hours per week. The rate of pay is $14 per hour. Ideally, the candidate would be available to work a ½ day each weekday. Some additional travel for site visits may be necessary over the course of the summer.
This position begins immediately and will continue through until December 18th. However, candidates who are available only for the summer portion of this contract (June- August 31st) are also encouraged to apply.
