LIFEGUARD
AND SWIM INSTRUCTOR
Location: Harrington Harbour, Quebec North Shore
Approximately July 1st – August 15,
2007.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Swim Instructor position will involve teaching
water safety and swimming to youth in the isolated coastal fishing community of
Harrington Harbour, on the Lower North Shore of Quebec. The successful
candidate will supervise staff, oversee operations, test student proficiency
levels and conduct community relation activities.
This is a fascinating opportunity to
visit a stunning and little-known part of Canada and to explore its rich and
unique culture. This position is an excellent point of departure for a student
or recent graduate eager to apply life-guarding and swim instruction skills
towards community development work. Not only does this position represent a
very tangible way to contribute to the quality of life of youth in this remote
region, but it allows the successful applicant to participate in one of QLFÕs
longest running programs and find out what weÕre all about!
QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, enthusiastic,
and loves children. He/she has strong leadership skills, is a strong
communicator, and is able to work both independently and in collaboration with
others. Canadian Red Cross Lifeguard and Instructors certifications are
required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Position is supervised and coordinated by our
partner, the Harrington Harbour Recreation Committee. Stipend depends on
qualifications and background. On-site housing, travel and other work-related
expenses will be covered. We will accept applications until the position is
filled.
