COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Location: Ipswich, MA; Various sites throughout New England

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Quebec-Labrador Foundation is a dynamic nonprofit organization with a highly qualified staff and a large diversity of projects and activities. It is an excellent atmosphere for undergraduate students who wish to learn and develop expertise around publications.

 

As a communications intern, this position may require travel to QLF projects in New England and eastern Canada in order to gather information for several QLF publications. These publications include Compass, QLF's annual magazine, which comes out in the fall, and a newsletter for all QLF interns, as well as marketing materials. The intern will collaborate closely with staff to plan, organize, draft, edit, and publish these publications. The intern will report to the QLF Executive Vice President for Communications.

 

This is an excellent internship opportunity for an intern wishing to learn about different aspects of non-profit activities and program management and the link between these functions and communications. It offers a well-rounded experience that can serve as the foundation for further work in communications and/or project management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The intern should be self-motivated, able to work independently and in collaboration with others, enthusiastic, a strong communicator, and well organized. Excellent writing ability, careful attention to detail, and interest in design is necessary. Interns should have good judgment and decision-making ability. Interest and experience in environmental issues and community-based conservation is an asset. Mac or PC skills are necessary and familiarity with Quark XPress is helpful. The intern will need a valid driver's license and a car and must be willing to travel; at times on the weekend.

 

STIPEND AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Stipend depends on qualifications and background. In the office, interns usually work from 9 am to 5 pm with about an hour for lunch.  Some evenings and weekends may be necessary.
