YOUTH LEADERSHIP CAMP VOLUNTEER

Location: Lower North Shore of Quebec, town to be undetermined

Between June-August 2008

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  This summer, QLF is assisting community groups to organize a summer recreation camp for children ages 7-12. The camp will provide a high quality and meaningful learning experience for the youth that will translate into leadership development and capacity building.

 

The Camp Volunteer will work under the Camp DirectorŐs supervision and with camp leaders to organize and administer the summer camp. The day camps will involve a variety of outdoor and indoor activities and may include outdoor and survival skills and swim and water safety skills. The volunteer will also promote educational experiences relating to the natural and cultural environment of the Lower North Shore. S/he will help strengthen campersŐ leadership and communication skills, while promoting group tasks and team work. 

QUALIFICATIONS: This position is suited to a volunteer who is flexible, creative, and enjoys working with youth. S/he must be responsible, mature, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and in collaboration with others. The volunteer must possess strong leadership qualities, including communication and teamwork skills as well as sound judgment. First Aid or Wilderness Safety training is an asset. Similarly, experience working with children in a camp setting will serve as a strong asset.
