Timeless Traditions - Preserving local heritage along the Quebec Lower North Shore
Nestled along a remote coastline in eastern Canada, the Quebec Lower North Shore is a region rich in history, culture and hospitality. Over the last few centuries, the settlers of the Lower North Shore have developed a distinct way of life – one that has been largely influenced by the English, French, Innu, and the surrounding land and sea. Stories of resourcefulness, self-reliance, perseverance and creativity are the backbone of local heritage, and the basis of many traditions that have been carried on for generations.
As with other isolated regions and cultures, modern technology has brought changes to rural communities, and this is especially true of the Lower North Shore. Traditions that were once considered the main sources of family bonding, and communication and socialization within communities, are slowly fading away.
In attempt to preserve this valuable heritage, the Quebec-Labrador Foundation’s Traditional Skills Network Program, along with funding from Canadian Heritage and Caisse Populaire Desjardins de Blanc Sablon, initiated Timeless Traditions – four inspiring activities, designed to motivate the residents of six communities to connect, share and preserve their valuable heritage.

Goal of Initiatives
The goal of this program is to increase awareness regarding the value of local heritage, and to encourage people to continue working together to forever preserve and celebrate the regions Timeless Traditions.
